iPhone 6 is bigger than the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 6 Plus is even larger than the iPhone 6. The Plus is not just the bigger, it comes with higher resolution and more pixel density. iPhone 6 with 4.7-inch display, has 1334 x 750 resolution and 326ppi density, while the Plus comes with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution ad 401 ppi density.

Size and Weight – iPhone 6 vs iPhone 6 Plus

Dimensions wise, iPhone 6 measure at 5.44 x 2.64 x 0.27 inches (138.1 x 67 x 6.9mm) and weighs at around 4.55 ounces (129g). On the other hand, the larger iPhone 6 Plus weight at around 6.07 ounces (172g) with 6.22 x 3.06 x 0.28 inches (158.1 x 77.8 x 7.1mm) measurements.

Despite the fact that iPhone 6 will be easier to use in one hand than the 5.5-inch variant, still these new devices with bigger dimensions will take some getting used to for the long term iPhone users.

Both phones get an upgraded ‘True Tone’ flash for more realistic lighting, faster autofocus, faster face and smile detection, and continuous autofocus in video recording. Both phones are capable of capturing 1080p video at 30fps and 60fps as well as 720p video at 120-240fps in slo-mo.

Sue to its larger size, iPhone 6 Plus is challenging to use in one hand, but Apple has introduced a feature dubbed as “Reachability” in iPhone 6 Plus to make it user friendly in one hand use. Reachability feature swipes down the whole screen to make it easy to access the button on the top of the screen.

Pricing & Availability

On a two year contract, iPhone 6 will cost you $199, $299 and $399 for 16GB, 64GB and 128GB models respectively. Meanwhile, apple is charging a $100 premium on the iPhone 6 Plus. It’s available for $299, $399, and $499 for 16GB, 64GB and 128GB models on a two years contract.

As far as the availability of the devices goes, both devices will be launched on September 12 and Apple is aiming to make these two devices available in 115 countries before the end of 2014.

Newly launched iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus support Voice over LTE (VoLTE) allowing users to make voice calls and use LTE data simultaneously. It means that with VoLTE enabled on iPhone 6 Plus or iPhone 6, you can make voice calls while browsing the web over 4G LTE connection.

VoLTE allows you to make wideband high quality more “naturally sounding” calls. Here’s what Apple has to say about the VoLTE feature in iPhone 6 and the Plus:

Go to Settings app.

Then tap on Cellular.

tap on Enable 4G or LTE.

and then tap on Voice & Data to select it.

That’s it. You have successfully enabled VoLTE on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Now if your carrier supports VoLTE, you must be able to browse the web and make HD voice calls simultaneously.

Now to test if you’re getting 4G LTE, download and install Speedtest.net application from the app store [iTunes link], make a call from your iPhone 6/plus, and test the data speed using speedtest.net app. Do it before and after enabling the VoLTE feature.

Based on the rumors and reports, Apple is set to launch its highly anticipated larger iPhone6 and iPhone Air on Friday, September 19. Apple is all set to unveil its next generation iphone, dubbed as iPhone 6, on September 15th followed by a launch on Thursday, 25th September.

The Next generation iPhone6 and iPhone Air are widely expected to feature an A8 processor, touch ID fingerprint sensor, improved 8MP camera, NFC and of course a larger screen. The next generation iPhone is expected to come in two different screen sizes: a 4.7 inch iPhone6 and 5.6 inch iPhone Air, as per the rumors. 4.7 inch iPhone 6 is expected to come in 32 GB and 64GB storage options, while the 128GB storage option will only be availble to 5.5 inch variant.

Messages, interactive notifications, 3rd party keyboard support, iCloud Drive,

iOS 8 Messages Get Better

iOS 8 lets you connect with your friends and family like never before. You can
add voice, video and share your location easily through Messages.
You can easily add voice messages to a conversation. To do that tap and hold
new microphone button to talk and send it with a swipe up. To can listen to the
received audio messages as well. Similarly you can send video messages via
Messages conversation instantly. New group messages feature allows you to take
charge of the group conversation. You can easily add, drop, leave a conversation
or turn on Do Not Disturb mode to avoid a flood of notifications from a single

thread of conversation.

Another new feature in iOS 8 Messages app is that you can easily share your

location with your friends and also see their location if they have shared it. You

can configure the time for the visibility of your location. Another new feature is

that you can send multiple photos and video at once. There’s no need to go

NFC

Near field communication (NFC) is a set of standards for smartphones and similar devices to establish radio communication with each other by touching them together or bringing them into proximity, usually no more than a few inches.

Present and anticipated applications include contactless transactions, data exchange, and simplified setup of more complex communications such as Wi-Fi. Communication is also possible between an NFC device and an unpowered NFC chip, called a "tag".

NFC standards cover communications protocols and data exchange formats, and are based on existing radio-frequency identification (RFID) standards including ISO/IEC 14443 and FeliCa. The standards include ISO/IEC 18092 and those defined by the NFC Forum, which was founded in 2004 by Nokia, Philips Semiconductors (became NXP Semiconductors since 2006) and Sony, and now has more than 160 members.


NFC devices can be used in contactless payment systems, similar to those currently used in credit cards and electronic ticket smartcards, and allow mobile payment to replace or supplement these systems.

For example, Google Wallet allows consumers to store credit card and store loyalty card information in a virtual wallet and then use an NFC-enabled device at terminals that also accept MasterCard PayPass transactions, Germany, Austria, Finland, New Zealand, Italy, Iran and Turkey, have trialed NFC ticketing systems for public transport.



Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections

NFC offers a low-speed connection with extremely simple setup, and can be used to bootstrap more capable wireless connections.

For example, the Android Beam software uses NFC to complete the steps of enabling, pairing and establishing a Bluetooth connection when doing a file transfer. Nokia, Samsung, BlackBerry and Sony have used NFC technology to pair Bluetooth headsets, media players, and speakers with one tap in its NFC-enabled devices. The same principle can be applied to the configuration of Wi-Fi networks.

Social networking

NFC can be used in social networking situations, such as sharing contacts, photos, videos or files, and entering multiplayer mobile games. In the field of social networking NFC is very useful to exchange contacts and other files.

Identity and access tokens

The NFC Forum promotes the potential for NFC-enabled devices to act as electronic identity documents and keycards. As NFC has a short range and supports encryption, it may be more suitable than earlier, less private RFID systems.

Smartphone automation and NFC tags

Smartphones equipped with NFC can be paired with NFC Tags or stickers which can be programmed by NFC apps to automate tasks. These programs can allow for a change of phone settings, a text to be created and sent, an app to be launched, or any number of commands to be executed, limited only by the NFC app and other apps on the smartphone.

These applications are perhaps the most practical current uses for NFC since it does not rely on a company or manufacturer but can be utilized immediately by anyone anywhere with an NFC-equipped smartphone and an NFC tag.
